Description

From the Oscar-winner who brought you ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and BEING JOHN MALKOVICH comes a riveting new masterpiece. Michael Stone - husband, father and noted author - travels to Cincinnati to speak at a customer service conference. But once he’s separated from the routine of his daily life, a chance encounter helps him to realize just what, and whom, he’s been missing. Love, laughter and loneliness align in a “staggeringly inventive” (Chris Nashawaty, Entertainment Weekly) stop-motion work of art from directors Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson.

Honestly one of the best movies I've seen in a long time! The animation is amazing and so unique, and despite the fact that it is animated, this is one of the most realistic feeling movies I've ever seen, the characters and their relationships had such a strong sense of realism, I also thought a lot of the stuff they did like with the imagery and voices where a really good way of giving us a look through the main characters point of view. I absolutely suggest checking this one out it's definitely worth your time!

I love eternal sunshine of the spotless mind but this movie makes women appear to be stupid and insecure (not as much as said for the male counterpart). I don't need approval from others on the way I eat and nor shall I apologize for the way I do so.. Don't understand the comment? Waste your time watching the movie
  • Incredible Animation. Complex with Hidden Meanings…

Like all Charlie Kaufman scripts, there is a richness of meaning and an open intepretation for viewers to contemplate. It can be disturbing, but also thought provoking, and even soulfully profound for some… for Anomalisa, questions such as why there are only three voices in the movie: the main character’s male voice (with English accent), the love interest’s voice which is the only female voice, and the 'disturbing' third male voice plays all the rest of the multiple characters including males, females and children? For me, it is related to identity, authenticity, the mechanization of life that results in monotony, loneliness and depression. The main character, Michael Stone, who is a successful customer service 'guru', has written influential books, and gives speeches to fans, looks like Richard Dawkins (the famous atheist), and especially with the English accent. Perhaps this is the hidden meaning in this movie? That living and seeing life as 'mechanical' only draws forth an emptiness and loneliness in life as exihited by the main character, but that the moment of being touched by 'authenticity' (beyond superficial looks, intelligence or status) can have a profound affect and change in a person’s outlook on life. Recommended for those who like to view movies beyond the surface level towards a deeper level of the subconscious realm.

I haven't seen it yet and I'm not one to judge something before I experience it,but based on these reviews I understand why Inside Out beat this movie out for the best animated film Oscar.I will try to avoid this film to prevent potential triggers, but you can get an equally powerful exploration of the human psyche from Inside Out that isn't a total downer.

I've enjoyed Kaufman's work—in the past. Anomalisa is bizarre at best, but this movie has no redeeming value or virtue whatsoever! Skip this one if you want to watch any of Kaufman's future work; if you do watch Anomalisa, you won't watch anything else he spews out in the future. I now know why this movie was crowd-sourced on kickstarter—because Kaufman couldn't find any legitimate production money for this debacle!!! Garbage!

You don't have to like it. Most people won't. For them, we have the Avengers. I love the Avengers, too. This is for people who scratch below the surface.

Even if you know what to expect from this director, you are in for a surprise.
