It feels fresh...not like the usual formulaic romantic comedy. Funny and smart and the right amount of quirky. It's got wrestling and Germans and a pickle factory - what more could I ask for! An excellent date movie, and the dogs are a bonus too if you like dogs.
  • Existential meditation on life hiding behind slobbering bulldogs

You wouldn’t expect a movie called the Dog Wedding to be an existential meditation on the meaning of life, but in fact, it is a deep look at what motivates us, our decisions and choices in life, framed in some extremely realistic oddball characters in a most unusual setting. You can watch it with an eye on cute dogs and gags, but a deeper look reveals a story about overcoming insecurities, finding your place in the world, and figuring out your own true identity, not the one forced on you by society or parental expectations, themselves only myths. It all hinges on the trip to visit White Owl. The bulldogs actually play like Shakespearean clown characters who comically reveal the true meaning of life to the protagonist.

This is a charming and funny story of two unlikely people who find each other. It's an offbeat mix of romance, pups, pickles, wrestling, and the Arizona desert. It works, and it will leave you smiling! Love the music, too!

Do you need a laugh or some cheering up? This is one of those charming offbeat heartwarming romantic comedies that wouldn’t surprise me if over time became a cult classic. Now just the thought of the mixture of a bulldogs in love, a wedding, pickles, wrestlers, German entrepreneurs, and a subtle homage to the avant-garde film images of the 60’s and 70’s makes me laugh. This is not the end of the quirkiness. The cast is a blend of actors and non actors with good chemistry sprinkled with great music and remarkable Japanese musicians and an Arizonian backdrop that all comes surprisingly together. Maybe I’m just sentimental but the storey even brings you to a happy tear ending. I have to say that Matt Bloom as one of the leads was wonderful and you can’t say enough good things about Rosalie Thomass. Special recognition should go to writers and director who made this work. I love this movie.

Saw this movie twice and liked it even better the 2nd time! This is not your typical rom com...very original, smart and sweet. Though the title may suggest it is for "dog people," this film will appeal to dog lovers and non dog lovers alike!
