Description

Testament of Youth is a powerful story of love, war and remembrance, based on the First World War memoir by Vera Brittain, which has become the classic testimony of that war from a woman's point of view. A searing journey from youthful hopes and dreams to the edge of despair and back again, it's a film about young love, the futility of war and how to make sense of the darkest times.

It's hard to believe that a film of this quality does not get a widespread release... Vera Brittain's life and book will live on forever...

I found this film whilst searching for Taron Egerton movies and while I don't write reviews, I knew I had to after watching it. This film was INCREDIBLE. From the acting and camera work to the storyline and emotion, this film is probably the best war movie I have ever seen; brilliantly well done. This film definitely deserves more than five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️➕

This movie is superb, beautiful, heart wrenching and honest. Gives us a real glimpse of what people went through, those fighting, and the family they left behind. Must watch. Going to read the book now!

It is a hart felt movie. It helps you understand what some people lost in that war. And the journey of how everyone is somewhat the same. And then not everyone wants to fight in the war even though they have to.

The cinematography was the most beautiful cinematography I've ever seen. Alicia Vikander delivered a moving performance as Vera Brittain and the supporting cast was really fantastic. However, I couldn't give it five stars because at times the plot was slow and I feel like I should've come away feeling something different than I did. Overall it was a beautiful drama- definitely worth it to watch!
  • WW through a womans perspective

We've seen so many WW era movies, that it's hard to find something original. This movie does it. Everthing was high quality from the clothing to the cinemaphotography. How was this jewel not released nation wide?! Amazing movie and just because it's from a womans perspective, doesn't mean it doesn't show what WW was like.

This is one of the greatest films I have seen in a long, long time, and one I felt strongly enough about to write a review. Of course the story of Vera Brittain is well-known to many pacifists, conscientious objectors and antiwar activists, one of tremendous pain and loss as well as tremendous personal courage in overcoming them, and the film portrays that beautifully. The film is excellently realised and directed, with nearly every frame a work of art. The actors are all sublime, and the lead character, brilliantly portrayed by Ms. Vikander, is not only a strong woman, but one who becomes stronger in the face of such pain, gaining the courage of her growing pacifist convictions, an unpopular stance in most times, ever more so in the early twentieth century. This film is so good it’s worth buying the disc. Highly recommended.

Extremely well done. Pulled me in to a time that is hard to imagine, yet successfully portrayed. Will watch again.
