The film encompasses Americana as I’ve never seen and remains one of the best films I’ve ever seen. Watch two men live, fall, exist and live in this endless cycle of life itself. The dreamy, hopeful, sad, reckless, happy essence of America couldn’t have been presented better. This train !

Characters, storyline, and plot were not believable. Couldn't connect with the characters... at several points I debated stopping watching.

Those who say this movie was bad are just simple cgi morons. This movie was fantastic and the performances by both actors is convincing.

This movie is a rarity in the midst of adrenaline seeking cgi crown. This is a slow burner movie with a theme of redemption and profound change about life.

While I sometimes get frustrated with people for hating on fun cheesy movies, and I usually say that not everything has to be this artistic and philosophical masterpiece, but I will say that’s something I really enjoyed about this movie. I think I also get annoyed when people say a movie is boring when it’s a film about character - if the characters are fleshed out and real, how is that boring? It’s not some epic road trip thrill ride, it’s a unique look into the lives of two gamblers/addicts who enable each other in different ways but also see the best in each other that they don’t see in themselves, but sadly ultimately don’t know how to help someone else while in the midst of their own addictions and fears and pitfalls I didn’t think anything about this was slow or boring. The characters are extremely well thought out and presented, they are very interesting and you constantly try to understand their motivations for the poor choices they make. These become much clearer the more the movie progresses and more is shared by both of them. It’s also really great to watch these two actors just get to chew up their scenes - they both do a fantastic job of bringing empathy to these less than heroic men. Definitely a great movie and fun to watch! If you’re looking for a fun road trip full of shenanigans and funny gambling snafu’s, this is not your movie. If you want a dramatic, witty, sometimes funny, sometimes sad, and very well acted dive into a period of time in 2 different types of gambling addicts lives and motivations, then definitely give it a watch!

I am with the seriously comment. This movie...if it can be called that... stink so incredibly bad. It has a 3 1/2 star rating on here ..... perhaps in a alternate universe. Should have actually read the reviews here before renting. Worst movie EVER EVER watched.... suffice to say I would rather visit my dentist.

Reynolds and Mendelsohn act superbly, displaying a realistic display of gambling addiction and the efforts of a couple men trying to overcome it. Definitely worth watching!
  • Plotless Movie

If you are in the mood for a meandering, essentially plotless and ultimately pointless movie about a low rent hustler and a pathetic, compulsive gambler and petty thief with zero character development than this film was meant for you (not me). Even the few scenes of poker playing in the film that could have provided a modicum of dramatic tension are completely botched.
  • Seriously 89%? Was this reviewed by insomniac’s?

What a painfully boring story. I see no reason for these two guys to come together at all. This is about exciting as watching hot dogs cook on a grill. You see them there - there is a flame below the dogs and you know given enough time they will burn up. The only good thing - I was able to catch up on some sleep during the middle of the movie.
