Description

It's Christmas Eve in Tinseltown and Sin-Dee (newcomer Kitana Kiki Rodriguez) is back on the block. Upon hearing that her pimp boyfriend (James Ransone, STARLET, "Generation Kill") hasn't been faithful during the 28 days she was locked up, the working girl and her best friend, Alexandra (newcomer Mya Taylor), embark on a mission to get to the bottom of the scandalous rumor. Their rip-roaring odyssey leads them through various subcultures of Los Angeles, including an Armenian family dealing with their own repercussions of infidelity. Director Sean Baker’s prior films (STARLET, PRINCE OF BROADWAY) brought rich texture and intimate detail to worlds seldom seen on film. TANGERINE follows suit, bursting off the screen with energy and style. A decidedly modern Christmas tale told on the streets of L.A., TANGERINE defies expectation at every turn.

I liked the fact that it was raw, but not inaccurate. These are some of the truths of life that people don't want, or like to acknowledge. Don't really care about how it was shot as long as the resolution quality is reflected in the end result. And like someone else said earlier, I can appreciated that these transvestites (excuse me if I havent used the PC term) were not portrayed as victoms, but rather people participating in the grime of the life.. There is a story here. If you didn't see one, you need to watch it again or go back to highschool.

9/10 This film is about transgender hookers. In any other director’s hands, I am sure this movie would be preachy as hell and would not have it’s undeniable charm. You see, this movie tells it straight. It doesn’t pander to the PC crowd like most other transgender movies do. This movie tells it like it is, the truth. Everything is real and funny. The banter between Alexandra and Sin-dee Rella is near hilarious and they both do a great, realistic job with there parts. Also featured is Razmik, an Armenian cabby with a penchant for transgender prostitute. This preference he has eventually tears his family life apart, and at the end, he just sits by a flickering Christmas tree, thinking. It is one of the saddest and most thoughtful moments in the entire film. The basic story is that Sin-Dee, just back from prison, realizes that her boyfriend and pimp, Chester has been cheating on her. She goes on a warpath, eventually finding the girl that Chester was cheating on her with. Alexandra tags along with her, as long as there is “no drama”. And this movie is witty too. I mean, really, really funny. There’s not many bad things about this movie. And it even looks great, and it was shot on a an iPhone!!! Preachy, sentimental filmmakers take note. This is how you make a film with transgender characters that is not about the fact that these people are transgender, which many films lately have made a massive point of, it is about the fact that these people are flawed individuals and three dimensional characters.

I bought this movie just to see if someone could actually create a movie using an iPhone. What a pleasant surprise to find this little gem. Loved the characters, music, editing...... Everything!!! Left me smiling for the rest of the day. ☺️

I enjoyed this movie on so many different levels. It's both hilarious and poignant, so yes, I cried as I watched, too. Good acting and pretty decent plot.

One of the best films of the year. Bursting with style and a nonjudgmental love of every kind of humanity. A masterpiece of paradoxes: funny and sad, gentle and rough, realistic and camp, contained and expansive, explicit and discreet, polished and indie. Watch and learn!

I liked it…no major deepness here…just following characters around for a day…but it held my interest. Interesting filming — especially knowing it was totally filmed on iPhone 5S phones….language, adult situations, etc.
