Description

John Cusack stars in this critically acclaimed romantic comedy as Lloyd, an optimistic underachiever, who falls for Diane, a beautiful valedictorian (Ione Skye). The great news is that Diane feels the same way about Lloyd. The bad news is that her possessive, grumpy dad (John Mahoney) disapproves. It may take more than the power of love for these two unlikely sweethearts to make it as a couple!

THIS is one of the seminal teen movies of all-time bar NONE. So why are we treated to a 2-minute clip between John Mahoney and Ione Skye? Ho To The Hum, Fox Dobler! Peter Gabriel! "I wanna be hurt." Give these movies the chances they deserve and put NEW content on here that's worthy of its source, especially in an age that is ALL ABOUT competing for your valuable streaming time. 5 stars for movie.

The most boring movie I have every seen. The dialog is insipid, no, it is stupid. Unwachable, blah characters doing absolutely nothing. One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Zero chemistry. Not even a romance. Blahsville USA.

It never aspired to be the big, life-altering movie that it could never hope to be. Instead Cameron Crowe stayed within the limits of the genre, and put together such a great cast of talented actors, all of whom really seemed to relish inhabiting their characters. Not a false note, just a great little film.
  • A Real “Killer” B Movie (one of 237!)

This review is an excerpt from my book “Killer B’s: The 237 Best Movies On Video You’ve (Probably) Never Seen,” which is available as an ebook on iBooks. If you enjoy this review, there are 236 more like it in the book (plus a whole lot more). Check it out! SAY ANYTHING…: Everyone has a special talent; Lloyd’s is being with Diane. He knows it; he just has to convince her. Cusack’s Lloyd is an original: sensitive, spontaneous, seriously silly; an attentive gentleman; a motor-mouthed marvel, desperately intense, doggedly persistent and an unrepentant romantic. Skye’s Diane is vulnerable and trusting; innocent, and naive enough to believe she really can “say anything” to her doting dad. While it’s clearly Lloyd’s movie, it’s also a father/daughter tale about trust and betrayal—and about breaking away, as Diane graduates painfully from girl to adult. And it’s a falling-in-love flick with amusingly accurate insight into the flurry of confusing feelings accompanying a heart’s first tentative test-drive. It’s a teen romance about serious responsibility, treated with adult respect and intelligence. And it’s an old-fashioned love story (and great date movie): smart, sweet and subtle; warm, witty and wise.

Love this movie, it is a true 80's classic. But I agree, where is the rest of the John Cusack 80's classic movies? Especially the movie, "Better Off Dead."
