Description

Blockbuster Director, Renny Harlin (DIE HARD 2, CLIFFHANGER) brings one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of the 20th century to the big screen -- the controversial Dyatlov Pass Incident. In February of 1959, nine Russian hikers ventured into a remote area of the Ural Mountains in Russia. Two weeks later, all nine were found dead. Now, five ambitious American college students are issued a grant to return to the site of the original events in the belief that they can uncover and document the truth of what happened at Dyatlov’s Pass. But what they find is more shocking than anything they could have imagined. Their trek through the Ural Mountains, retracing the steps of that ill-fated journey, is plagued by strange and increasingly terrifying phenomena, all of which suggest that in spite of their desolate surroundings, they are not alone. The forces behind the Dyatlov Pass Incident have been waiting for them.

When I first heard and read about the Dyatlov Pass Incident I always thought a movie should be made about it. Then I stumbled across this film and just had to watch it and I was not disappointed. If you're a horror movie fan and are expecting scares you won't get many of them. But if you like movies with interesting plots and twists there's a good chance you will enjoy this (it's no "Inception" plot so don't worry you'll understand it lol). Plus, the ending is GREAT! The Dyatlov Pass Incident was never solved. The nine hikers were all determined to have died of hypothermia. What made it strange though is that they ran outside in sub-zero temperatures very under dressed, had internal injuries with no signs of struggles or damage to the skin, and were somewhat irradiated. It was also reported that witness around the Ural mountains saw orange lights in the sky around the time of the incident. Was it aliens? Were they killed because they ended up someplace they weren't supposed to be? It's likely we will never know. Although the movie doesn't get all of the facts right, it adds a few interesting twists to the incident. While watching it you will constantly be asking yourself "What will happen next?"

I thought this was great. I’d see it again. I’d recommend it. Not at all what I expected. I took a chance and I completely enjoyed it. X-files meets blair witch, maybe. Whatever.

Horrible 'video journal' type of movie with the characters video taping little narratives all the way through the first part of the movie. When the 'interesting' part finally started it was the typical dark scenes, all the lights in the 'cave' flickered all the time even though lights on the desks, etc., didn't. There was a plot but it wasn't really revealed until late in the movie. I fast forwarded through most of the movie, was sorry I blew the money buying this flick.
  • Great start, but it falls flat

First the good. Generally I hate found footage films. This one however is shot more professionally so that you don't have 90 minutes of jumbled crap. Also, the movie starts off great with a real-life unsolved mystery. Unfortunately when the mystery starts to be explained, it degenerates rapidly to a wholly non-sensical and unsatisfying ending.
  • Entertaining enough

Really enjoyed the last part of the movie and all the cold war science fiction references. Did not like the young hiker characters, or the poor scientific explanations of mass hysteria. Still worth the watch, though.

I wasn't expecting much getting this movie but I so surprised when I finished.i really don't understand why people don't like it.Even though it's hand held type it keeps your attention you start to like the characters .The first forty explains the whole mystery bought the 9 hikers which is very intriguing by its self and the last 30 is the horror part .those things were freaky. There were some issues with parts yes and they could explained little more and maybe a little better acting and it would be way up there.its not Blair witch neither ten times better than that.Great a movie.Rent if nothing. This movie was for rent in September why are they wanting people to preorder when it's been out and on here already and not even for rent.DONT think that's right.Trying to make something look new when it's not

At first I thought the movie was another lame "Blair Witch" with the slow start to the documentary , and I was a little wary of the shaking camera. The movie was entrancing I found myself at some points at the edge of the bed waiting for the next move. The story is riveting and that helps emmensley , I have been researching the incident ever since . All in all it was fantastic and then ending was mind blowing !!!!

Awful flick. Bad acting. Hideous dialog. Characters you just don't care about. Another "found footage" movie with irritating camera work, a main female character with an annoying voice, and characters that you WANT to see die. Terrible sound design. The creatures that you see in the trailer - don't appear until the end.
