Description

Krzysztof Kieślowski’s international breakthrough remains one of his most beloved films, a ravishing, mysterious rumination on identity, love, and human intuition. Irène Jacob is incandescent as both Weronika, a Polish choir soprano, and her double, Véronique, a French music teacher. Though unknown to each other, the two women share an enigmatic, emotional bond, which Kieślowski details in gorgeous reflections, colors, and movements. Aided by Slawomir Idziak’s shimmering cinematography and Zbigniew Preisner’s haunting, operatic score, Kieślowski creates one of cinema’s most purely metaphysical works. The Double Life of Véronique is an unforgettable symphony of feeling.

An arty film that tries really, really hard to be abstruse but isn't quite sure what it's about. Two girls who happen to look exactly like go about their separate lives, and one of the two girls has an intuition that she has a connectedness with some unknown person. There's no real theme holding it all together and no real irony to make it interesting.

Kieslowski really had his way of telling the story. The prodominantly use of yellow color and various symbolisms resulted in a film as profound as Trois Couleurs. I strongly recommend watching this with another of his film "Rouge", and one will see the interesting contrast of coloring.

4.75 stars. For adults who believe in love between a woman and a man has a quality of destiny. This film touches that erogenous zone in a unique manner. It is for men who love women and women who love men. Mystery, eroticism—literate, artful, beautiful, intelligent. Irene Jacob is superb, the story is compelling, cinematography is perfect art of shadow and light, and the director is a master at work. Beautiful love journey, exploration of psychological events, thoroughly intriguing. Cinema rarely seen this interesting.

I found this very boring. I had high hopes for it, but it dragged on and on. Don't bother.

Only a genius like Krzysztof Kieslowski had the vision of making one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen.
