Description

Newly arrived in Hong Kong, martial arts instructor Ip Man (Donnie Yen) encounters stiff opposition when he begins teaching the Wing Chun fighting style. • So bad compared to the first.

The acting is so bad. Fights are way too dramatic. Sad to see this movie so poorly produced after seeing the first one, which was amazing. The translated voiceovers I really cannot stand. They’re terrible! I wish it was spoken in Chinese (or Cantonese, as its now in Hong Kong), like the first movie and included proper English subtitles. I prefer hearing Chinese rather than terrible voice actors, especially in the fights. Very disappointing after the first Ip Man.

A remarkable display of the martial arts masterfully done yet again by Donnie Yen. While this movie is not as compelling as the first movie, the martial arts action nevertheless is a spectacle to behold.

Donnie Yen, Ip Man, is deadly, poetry in motion. It just doesn't get any better than him. I rented this movie; however, after seeing it, I had to buy it. It's amazing!

Superb movie. But the language is Cantonese, not Mandarin as iTunes has it listed.

It seems to me as people have lost track of the difference between trying to teach action and adventure, and demonstrating/teaching the philosophy behind non-western martial arts. Yes, there was violence. Yes, there was prejudice. And greed, misbegotten and confused loyalty, warped and misapplied law, morals, mores, and ethics---to name just a few of the human frailties highlighted in this excellent. OK, we can spot "evil". This is assumed understood by the viewing audience. It seems to this viewer that the writer, director, and at least some of the actors are mindfully, and powerfully, attempting to demonstrate the esoteric wisdom of martial arts. " yes! That is evil, corrupt, wrong". How is that best dealt with? How do I handle myself; others; the "problem"? How does one react in an appropriate manner? A question I used to ask of kids on the mat: "How do you kill your enemy?" The correct answer: "You make him your friend!" I believe THAT is what this movie is trying to give us, and that they have done a masterful job---while keeping us wonderfully entertained. PS. I thought the subtitles were very well done. Easy to read and non-intrusive.

One of the sorriest movie I've ever watched. Boring to say the least. If I wanted to read I would have gotten a book. The movie is in Chinese. Save your money and look elsewhere.
