Description

Considered among the best films of all time, Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver was nominated for Academy Awards® for Best Picture, Best Actor (Robert De Niro), Best Supporting Actress (Jodie Foster) and Best Original Score (Bernard Herrmann). Solitary, alienated, and emotionally scarred from Vietnam, taxi driver Travis Bickle (De Niro) works the night shift in Manhattan.Though the world around him is teeming with life, Travis is unable to connect with anyone. His date with Betsy (Cybill Shepherd), a beautiful campaign aide, fails when he takes her to a porno movie. He tries to save a 12-year-old prostitute, Iris (Foster), from her pimp, Sport (Harvey Keitel) - though it's unclear Iris wants to be saved. Travis's pent-up anger and misplaced loyalty finally boil over in a paroxysm of revenge and violence.

This movie shows the scum and digusting parts of humanity in all its glory. One of the best DeNiro 7 Scorcese movies ever made. Jodie Foster is absolutely excellent as well.

Don’t believe the hype! Yeah the cinematography may have been poignant and surreal at times, but the story was obtuse , a jagged mess held together by duck tape. Meh.

Not only is it influential. It’s nightmarish depiction of New York City and inner macabre of a lonely man who spirals down slowly into the brink of madness. De Niro’s performance is legendary and the violence can’t look even more real. It’s a thought provoking film that today a lot of people don’t understand it. Especially when Travis is the villain and causes all his problems around him. It’s a must watch for not regular audiences but actual film buff audiences, I can’t recommend this dark and rich piece of art enough.
  • Better than Pulp Fiction AND Goodfellas

From the opening scene alone you can instantly tell that this is an undeniable classic! I'm a huge fan of Martin Scorsese, I've seen Raging Bull, Mean Streets, Gangs of New York, and thus far, this is the best of his work I've seen! Beyond that, the acting is perfect, the cinematography is brilliant and the script is truly Oscar worthy, yet somehow won no Oscars. I could go on a rant all day about how Jodie Foster was FAR more worthy to win the award for best supporting actress for her portrayal of a teenage hooker that really disturbed me (and she did it at such a young age, it was like Leo DiCaprio in Gilbert Grape) than the old lady from Network who was on screen for FIVE MINUTES and somehow won the Oscar that year because she was... Better? (Nope she was older, that's it)... Sorry I wish so hard that this movie had one at least ONE Oscar, it's just that good. In conclusion, Martin Scorsese's Masterpiece!

Anyone should see Taxi Driver if they're remotely interested in films, what else could you ask for? A Scorsese's masterpiece, a brilliant performance by DeNiro that gets you rooting for the ultimate antihero.
