Description

A Tribe Called Quest has been one of the most commercially successful and artistically significant musical groups in recent history. The band’s sudden break-up in 1998 shocked the industry and saddened the scores of fans, whose appetite for the group's innovative musical stylings never seem to diminish. This insightful film, directed by Michael Rapaport, takes viewers on a behind-the-scenes journey - chronicling the group's rise to fame and revealing the stories behind the tensions which erupted in the years to come. The film features interviews with the members of the group as well as with the Beastie Boys, Kanye West, Pharrell, Mos Def, Monie Love, De la Soul, the Jungle Brothers, Common and more.

Big ATCQ fan here but this film had a lot of weak sound and bad, shaky camera work and angles. I'm all for amateurs doing films but come on now, do some color balance and hold the camera still, son. Luckily the content is juicy which people are obviously loving. It's really about the band airing they dirty laundry. I don't think it's in good taste. There's so much tension on screen, it's not fun to watch.

I watched this documentary quite by accident on a cable channel and I couldn't turn away. Hands down it's the best documentary I've seen. It almost feels like a drama with the plot twists and turns. There is so much music history in the documentary. I didn't realize until seeing the film this year that Ali formed Lucy Pearl which was one of my favorite groups. The insight into the genius that is q-tip is incredible. I wasn't a tribe fan during their tenure but ironically I've been a fan of the members as solo artists. The film showed the magnitude of the group's true influence. If you want to know what hip hop is really about as an art form and the genius that the true genre, catch the doc. on On Demand.

I caught the movie when it came out at the Theater... It was only showing at the South Beach Regal Theater & every show was sold out for 5 days straight. Best viewing experience being that everyone in the theater were Tribe fans & "Real" Hip-Hop fans in general. Everyone just kept bobbing their heads in sync to the tunes & the big screen. As soon as the BlueRay came out, I was on it... I've watched it several times with friends and it just doesn't get old, needless to say Tribe was (& still is) my favorite music group of all time, so every song brought back amazing memories from Jr High & High School. Love the end of the Doc... I will be patiently waiting for the last album... ...If it ever happens... (crossing-fingers)
