Description

This is where it all started. John Ford’s smash hit and enduring masterpiece Stagecoach revolutionized the western, elevating it from B movie to the A-list and establishing the genre as we know it today. The quintessential tale of a group of strangers thrown together into extraordinary circumstances, Stagecoach features outstanding performances from Hollywood stalwarts Claire Trevor, John Carradine, and Thomas Mitchell, and, of course, John Wayne, in his first starring role for Ford, as the daredevil outlaw the Ringo Kid. Superbly shot and tightly edited, Stagecoach (Ford’s first trip to Monument Valley) is Hollywood storytelling at its finest.

Amazing movie with John Wayne in his breakthrough role, but when will STAGECOACH add iTunes Extras and closed captioning and upgrade to 4K? The Criterion Collection should continue upgrading or sell the home distributing rights to Fox or Warner Brothers or even Paramount.

And? If you don’t think you like John Wayne, this is a toss-up for which movie to break that character flaw. Either Stagecoach or The Quiet Man. Liberty Valance, Searchers, and the Fighting Kentuckian round out my top 5. It’s a slippery slope! Stagecoach is great fun. Trivia NOTE: Yakima Canutt's famous stunt going under the running stagecoach was the inspiration for Terry Leonards similar gag in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

This film is on my list of top 5 John Wayne westerns. Unfortunately, films like Stagecoach are no longer produced. The movie industry is interested only in box office and will turn out mediocre films with as much violence, sex, and special effects to draw the viewers in. The acting, storyline, cinematography, direction by John Ford are top notch. This film is a treasure! 💎

Typical, however, like all the Criterion movies, this one didn't come with Closed Captioning for the hearing impaired either.

Seriously 19.99 for a movie on blue ray thats msrp of 7.99. Is there a free market anymore? Want to curtail piracy? Lower the price of the product. Not hard
  • Great movie, terrible print

The movie itself is a classic. However, the video includes scratches and flaws indicating that it was made from an old, beat-up print of the film. I found that disappointing. It's not rocket science to clean up those kinds of problems in transferring a film to digital format, but apparently the producer didn't care enough to do it.

Stagecoach is one of the greatest movies of the twentieth century. John Wayne is dynamite and so is the action!
