Description

Following the murder of her father by hired hand Tom Chaney, 14-year-old farm girl Mattie Ross sets out to capture the killer. To aid her, she hires the toughest U.S. marshal she can find, a man with "true grit," Reuben J. "Rooster" Cogburn. Mattie insists on accompanying Cogburn, whose drinking, sloth, and generally reprobate character do not augment her faith in him. Against his wishes, she joins him in his trek into the Indian Nations in search of Chaney. They are joined by Texas Ranger LaBoeuf, who wants Chaney for his own purposes. The unlikely trio find danger and surprises on the journey, and each has his or her "grit" tested.

She gave me a headache with her acting and I thought it was a school play. Very bad.

  • NOWHERE as good as the original

The original had personality and humor. Damon isn't much better as the ranger than Campbell was and, Bridges brings no life to the character – very two-dimensional and unappealing. The only think I liked was that the ending was more like the book. The rest was just a remake. And Bridges silly voice is, well, silly. Honestly , the only thing in which this surpasses the original is the epilogue. Period.
  • An insult to movies

This movie was an insult to the original True Grit and to movies in general. The only thing I liked better was the choice of the girl. Jeff Bridges portrayed the main character as word slurring drunk. There was no excitement or anticipation of what was going to happen. I’m sorry I wasted my time watching it and won’t watch it again. It was even an insult to B westerners. I can’t figure out why it was even nominated for an academy award, but I don’t remember it as being snubbed which led me to believe that the judges who chose this film might have been inebriated themselves.
