Robin Williams and Al Pacino alone would make this movie a must see, but that is not it. Three quarters of the way in the movie, it actually resolves in a major way. But don't miss the last minute of the movie.

The mood is set great -- but this movie becomes the victim of its own design -- the set design plus tone winds up depressing

Christopher Nolan knows how to make film. Just look at his filmography. The Dark Knight, Inception, Memento, and this. This film has some of the best writing in a Christopher Nolan film. Of the ones I have seen, I think only Inception could even possibly beat this one's writing. Al Pacino does a great job in this movie, he really does embody this character in a way I personally haven't seen from him since Micheal Corleone in The Godfather. Robin Williams (may he rest in peace) shows once again how versatile of an actor he is, becoming this dark and truly incredible character. I personally think Hillary Swank almost stole the show with her portrayal of detective Burr. This is a very riveting and suspenseful film, though I do not think it was as intense as I wish it could have been, and I thought I could have cared a little more about the characters. Please, go into this film knowing next to nothing, and you will not be disappointed. This movie looks great thanks to the directing and cinematography. The film has a dark and eerie atmosphere throughout its entirety that I very much enjoyed. The ending was absolutely phenomenal. I think I only liked Inception's a little better with Dark Knight close behind. This is a truly incredible film that I implore you to watch. My personal rating would be an 97%, though I feel it has the potential to get higher (and it did) and maybe become one of my favorite movies (and it has). This truly is an amazing film that I beg you to rent and watch, or watch on Netflix. You won't be disappointed.

A great thriller with top notch performances by Al Pacino, Robin Williams, and Hillary Swank. Well written and directed, this film draws the viewer into Pacino's character's nightmarish situation. Beautiful cinematography is also a plus for this film. I viewed this film in memory of the gifted, wonderfully talented Robin Williams. R.I.P.

This movie is fantastic, but be warned. Despite that iTunes advertises "Insomnia" the audiobook by Stephen King, this movie has nothing to do with Stephen King's book. Not even based on it. Don't get me wrong, I love Stephen King, and Insomnia is a fantastic book. I just don't want anyone disappointed by either, thinking that the two are related in any way at all.

The suspense is built with meticulous ingenuity. The story telling is totally believable and it pulses between patient and urgent. During the most violent sequences the surroundings close in on the characters, trapping them and magnifying the already vivid fear. During the quieter more tension-building sequences the surroundings expand into the most astonishing vast beauty, its breathtaking power oblivious to the characters' increasingly desperate conflicts. The film's ultimate point of view remains fascinatingly inscrutable. Robin Williams is brilliant! Al Pacino is brilliant! Hilary Swank is brilliant! I'd say this thing is gripping from start to finish, but the truth is that this film has continued to grip me, haunt me really, long after it ended.

Of course they would have Robin Williams calling the guy "Will".
