Description

Set in the 1930s Manchurian desert where lawlessness rules and many different ethnic groups clash, three Korean men fatefully meet each other on a train. The train’s diverse passengers and imminent danger with guns and knives everywhere serves as a microcosm of the turbulent times. Do-won (JUNG Woo-sung) is a bounty hunter who tracks down any criminals with rewards on their heads. Chang-yi (LEE Byung-hun) is the leader of a group of tough-as-nails bandits. He cannot stand to be the second best. Tae-goo (SONG Kang-ho) is a train robber with nine lives. The three strangers engage in a chase across Manchuria to take possession of a map Tae-goo discovers while robbing the train. Also on the hunt for the mysterious map are the Japanese army and Asian bandits. In this unpredictable, escalating battle for the map, who will stand in the end as the winner?

I am not a western fan. While I do enjoy the classics, its very rare to fine any good modern day western movies. This movie however blew me away. While it is like the good the bad and the ugly story wise, this movie stands on its own. I never expected to love this movie as much as I do, let alone a western movie. This will make you believe western movies can still be made in todays world. Action is amazing, the actors are great. Its reminds me of all the good things of a jackie chan movie and a Jet li movie rolled perfectly into one movie.

No over the top blood blood explosions or drawn out Kung-fu, this is as good, if not better than some American westerns. A mix of action and comedy, this film is worth a watch. Gun fights, bad guys, a treasure map and different opposing factions all out for the same goal.

The best and most entertaining homage to the western ,particularly Spaghetti westerns ever made. And in many way surpasses them by creating its own funny and trail blazing path. One of the best movies I have seen in a long time!

This film pays homage to classic western icons without being cliche. The story line is hearty and there is plenty of wry humor throughout.
  • Very Entertaining

This movie was rented on a whim... I am glad I did! It is a Korean film and well done. But, be prepared to read the subtitles (the dialog is easy to follow and it doesn't interfere with the film, even for audiances that don't normally view subtitled films)... The acting is good, the costumes, the sets... all well done. The plot is a little thin but that works great for this movie. The writers, directors, and producers are all clearly fans of Italian western genre. One might think this is an Asian remake of "the Good the Bad and the Ugly"... it is true they borrowed heavily from it but it is a stand alone film that creates a myth-like feeling. The beginning and the build up works well but, it loses itself as the climax builds... I still highly recommend seeing this!

I love this movie. The characters are halarious, especially the Weird. I had fun guessing who was really who throughout the movie, although it was pretty obvious from the beginning:) I loved seeing what they would do next, and it was just a whole bunch of fun. The ending left me smilling, and although some pretty impossible things occured throughout the film, you don't really care. The characters all worked really well together and played off eaach other well. It's just such a great movie. tons of fun

Guys and Girls, this is well worth the HD price to buy and keep. I guarantee you will absolutely love it. Hollywood is so stuck on CG and poor plots, Hollywood needs to take lessons from the Asian market.
