Description

A modern-day version of the gospels, opening with John the Baptist calling a disparate group of young New Yorkers from their workaday lives to follow and learn from Jesus. They form a roving acting troupe that enacts the parables through song and dance, comedy, and mime. Jesus' ministry ends with a last supper, his Crucifixion in a junkyard, and, the following morning, his body being carried aloft by his apostles back into the world of the living on the streets of New York.

Stephen Schwartz, you've done it again! This musical is GREAT!!! I love it when people take Jesus and put him in the current world. It's always a breath taking spectacular! This movie was funny, goofy, and a bit insiteful. I am very pleased that I can finally sing Musical Theatre songs in my church!!! I've always wanted to be able to mix Musical Theatre with church but wasn't able to until now!!! YIPPY!!! Day by day! Day by day!...

I'm an athiest and I LOVE this, songs are fantastic and the backdrop of Manhattan is just perfect. There is one particularly sad scene, All for the Best ends with them dancing on the still being built World Trade Center...

This movie is one of my top 2 movies of all time. At first, people may get thrown off by the clown make-up, the hippy-ness & silliness of it all- but look deeper and Victor Garber does an awesome job of portraying Jesus as a tender, loving, but also a justice-seeking Savior, Jesus Christ. The skits they do again, are silly tone, but the message is still there and the songs? Awesome! My favorite songs are: "All Good Gifts", "Where Are You Going?" & "On The Willows." Thanks I-Tunes for finally releasing this movie!

Godspell has to be by far my favorite movie ever. This is goofy, silly, funny and at the end, just a bit sad and dramatic. Godspell is a beautiful story of community and friendship, not meant to be taken religiously if you don't want to. The quality of the video is great, everything can be seen clearly. It's a very happy movie, with music that just makes you want to get up and dance!
