The Runaways

This is a really fun movie to watch, particularly if you appreciate music from this era. In my opinion, Kristen Stewart and Michael Shannon steal the show, and are the best things in the film. A lot of people seem to think Dakota ‘nailed’ her role as Cherie Currie, but I think she was miscast. She seemed dead behind the eyes to me, even before drugs took over her life post-quitting the Runaways. Also, you could tell Kristen was really singing, while Dakota (imo) was lip-syncing for much of the film. No fault in that necessarily, but it just shows you how Kristen embodied Joan Jett. I know Joan hand picked her for the role, and she picked well. And, no, I am not a ‘Twi-hard’ (I actually loathe the Twilight franchise), so that’s not influencing my opinion of her performance. I just think in the right role, she can really deliver. My husband also saw Joan live, and said she was awesome (both Joan and Kristen’s portrayal of Joan.) And the music, both of the Runaways, and of other bands featured (such as the Stooges, Susie Quatro, Garry Glitter, etc…) was a blast. I’m curious now to see the doc on them, and to read Cherie’s book to learn more. Love Joan as a solo artist as well. Crimson and Clover is one of my all-time favourite covers. Check it out and don’t pre-judge. You’ll be in for a pleasant surprise.

Michael Shannon was the best thing about this movie, he hijacks every scene he's in. Just a really exciting person on-screen. I wanna see other stuff he's in now. Kristen and Dakota do 'ok,' but just 'ok,' in their roles. Both seem so passionless, but how does that happen in a rock and role pic??? Even when they're showing extreme emotion it's a little sedate. It's like, who put the fire out??! :( They remain in this zen mode through-out the WHOLE THING. It makes the film a snooze fest, til Mr. Shannon hits the screen. The other problem is the screenplay. It rushes past all the important moments, glossing over the engaging stuff. Then it (film) tries too hard to look cool. But I don't care how cool the thing looks, we need a story... a real one.

This movie was amazing!!!! If you get the app "Crackle" they have the movie on there!!! I promise you this is 100% real this isn't a joke or trick!! The app is free and all the movies are too!! The movie will only be on the app for about 3 more months so they can put new stuff on there sooo you have to watch it!!!!

It is an amazing heartfelt but rough film with incredible acting.

This movie was great. It was raw and realistic and revealed the exploitation that was faced on their rise to stardom. But very enjoyable to watch. Superb acting by Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning.

Kristen Stewart can really act! She is just amazing in this movie! I honestly don't understand why she has a bad rep just because of Twilight....i mean those movies are good but she has so much more potential.

How is it that this movie is two years old and still not available to rent!????!
