Sad to say the best versions even in the 21st century are the old 20th century versions of Nathaniel Hawthornes novel. This can’t hold a candle to Colleen Moore or Lilllian Gishs version and they don’t even TALK a pure waste of money

On AppleTV the sound quality is TERRIBLE. Neither of the two of us could tell what was being said. This only occurred on our AppleTV. On the same speakers we normally have no such problem.

Yes, it's not like the novel by Hawthorn, but I loved this version non the less. True it was hard, at first, to accept Demi Moore as a woman living in the 1600s, but as soon as she started interacting with Gary Oldman, and all the other very talented costars, that doubted melted away, and I was able to watch this film and love every single minute of this celluloid gem! Please, if you haven't, give this movie a chance. Honestly, I believe you won't regret it if you go into it with an open mind, that is. Thank you iTunes for finally offering this, and for not making it be a rent only!!

I don't understand why this was considered box office poison; I loved it! I wasn't concerned that it deviated from the original book. If one understands the history of witch hunts, male dominance of society and how women were not allowed to voice opinions or have independent thought, the movie is believable. I thought the chemistry between Demi and Gary was flaming hot, this is one of my favorite movies. I'm not surprised men don't like it though, they can't relate to a woman's shame, so how could they give a positive review?

Get a lot of beer, a ton of popcorn, and a bunch of friends, and laugh your whatevers off at this AWFUL excuse for a film version of a great classic. Not even Demi naked can redeem this thing.
