I saw this on the AFI100 list and gave it a watch. It’s an incredible movie with a great storyline! It’s insane to think that this movie was created during the Great Depression.

If you are hesitating to get this because you are concerned that it might be one of the old "public domain" versions, dont worry. I have the Blu Ray book version and I think it is the definative version. This is just about as good. It is like watching it in the theater in 1933. Blacks are black and sharp and there are no jarring jumps when you get to the censored scenes. This is 1000X better than the bloated, self indugent AWFUL Peter Jackson 2005 version. Buy it without fear. $4.99? You CANNOT go wrong.

It's one of my all time favorites - few movies can match this one in the sense of adventure. I just hope one day it's available to download in hd.
  • True Classic

Forget the overlong cgi-fest that Jackson indulged himself on. This is the true Kong classic with effects that are still amazing to comprehend how they were pulled off 80 years ago! While the 21st Century remake is ambitious and epic in scope, and the 1970s version features some interesting characters and a more subversive cynical view of America (the exploiter is the oil company, the military are essentially villains and Jack realizes that Dwan is all about the spotlight) this version is a landmark in many ways. The effects are obviously the foundation of decades of fx specialists' work, but the music score is one of the first created specifically for a film and the fantastic creature creation and personality given to Kong himself is unlike any film that came before. Dinosaurs, chase scenes, romance, an exotic jungle island and the most famous movie creature in American film history all comes together for a movie all film fans must see.

For its time, this film really shows what hard work can create. The acting is top-notch, great atmosphere, and phenomenal effects for 1933. Definitely worth a watch if your a giant-monster fan. 5/5

These are the weirdest graphics ever, but still, looks like an awesome movie.

Back then things were more realistic and fun I miss the 30s.

The only thing bad is that they took out the crab, lizard and octopus scene. Oh well I can see why they did but I still liked it. Peter Jackson remade that scene, but it still wasn't as good as 1933 version

Thanks to iTunes for making this wonderful early B&W movie finally available to it's many fans to watch whenever we want (it looks great on both the iPad & iPhone by the way!). I had almost forgotten how fantastic it is visually and stylistically (all of that 1930's New York Art Deco architecture, plus the dialog, fashion, etc.) aside from the story itself. Love Peter Jackson's remake too, but this is the inspiration for it. A great addition to any video library!

This 1933 film basically launched the special effects industry. I would like to say thank you to Itunes and as soon as I get my next card loaded, this is where I am headed. Thanks again :D
