Description

Sebastian Junger's phenomenal best seller hits the screen starring George Clooney as the veteran skipper of a fishing boat on a collision course with fate in the suspense-filled true story of The Perfect Storm. Just days after returning from a disappointing fishing trip, Andrea Gail captain Billy Tyne (Clooney) decides to return to the sea to trawl for swordfish one last time before the season ends. From the port of Gloucester, Massachusetts, Tyne and a five-man crew that includes seaman Bobby Shatford (Mark Wahlberg) set sail for the Flemish Cap, rich fishing grounds far beyond the vessel's normal range. Out at sea, Tyne learns of an impending storm but thinks he can outrun it. Little does he know that he's contending with not one but three weather fronts that unite to create the fiercest, most destructive storm of the 20th century!Less

The Perfect Storm is one of those films that I expected to be just another terrible natural disaster film. I was proven wrong by the great character development, storyline, visual effects, and the moral of not giving up. This movie is a great example of fighting to the end. I recommend it.

Reality being what it is, it’s sometimes difficult to tell a true story without it failing to meet all the critics’ expectations. Too bad. This movie tells the story of a crew who were lost to the fate of many fishermen who work the stormy Atlantic Ocean, but who made a valiant attempt to survive weather that unexpectedly sealed their fate in a real-life drama (and took the lives of Coast Guard personnel that searched in vain for the crew in heavy seas and, due to weather so violent that midair refueling was made impossible, also perished after their helicopter ditched after running out of fuel). Critics pooh-pooh stories of courage, heroism, and self-sacrifices made so that others may live: too bad. This is as real as it gets.

I really liked this movie. It had its faults but the humanity behind it was moving. Those men who sailed the seas for fish who tried to dare the storm and the tragedy they were met with. Overall a great film with a touching/poignant ending.

Michael Ironside has starred in about 100 different films and shows. Apple, where is the movie "The Watchers," which stars Corey Haim and Michael Ironside? Getting rights to place intellectual property on iTunes can be a long process, but come on. This movie was released in 1988.
