First, I have to say that the actors are amazing. Love Mitchum, Parker, and the younger actors. The storyline was unique and well written. The story is about Mitchum and his two sons. Eleanor Parker plays the estranged wife. Parker and Mitchum love each other but are to distanced to admit it from his cheating. His sons are opposites, one raised by Parker and the other raised by himself. Both boys love the same girl. And there is tragedy. WATCH THIS BUY IT LOVE IT one of the best dramas of all time u cannot miss it!!!

My husband's favorite movie, and mine, too.. totally agree with Tree111's review.. well spoken... we absolutely love this movie and have for years. Even though it was made in 1960, the storyline is memorable...much deeper and more meaningful and sincere than today's releases.
  • 18 years later... I get to see this again!!!!

I"ve looked all over for this movie for 18 years now... That's the last time I saw it on TCM. This is one of the best movies of all time. Better family conflict than Dallas or Dynasty, and a better love story than any thing the teenage actors of today are releasing. You don't have to be a fan of "old" movies to love this one... just a fan of great movies.
