Description

"Everybody, let's rock!" Rock'n'roll legend Elvis Presley makes his feature film debut in this critically-acclaimed classic. While serving time for manslaughter, young Elvis is taught how to play the guitar by his cellmate. After winning over the hardened inmates with his musical talent, he's released and struggles to become a major recording star. But conflict arises when his cellmate demands a cut of the action. Considered by many to be the best of the Presley films, it features a golden collection of Elvis standards, including "Treat Me Nice" and the Elvis-choreographed inmate dance number, "Jailhouse Rock." With Dean Jones ("Clear and Present Danger," "The Love Bug") and Mickey Shaughnessy ("From Here to Eternity").

I love this movie! So fun and yet has serious moments. Elvis is really good in this.

Let's face it...most of the King's movies are throwaways...lol! The only reason all those lousy flicks of his from the '60's had any box office success at all is because he was in them. There are a few from the early 60's that were decent (Wild In The Country, Kid Galahad, namely), but pretty much the rest of them were forgettable. Yes, even Viva Las Vegas...Ann-Margret provided a lot of eye candy for the guys, but that is the ONLY reason that movie is highly regarded...the script and plot of that flick are terrible! Anyway, I digress...the 50's produced the two best Elvis flicks...King Creole and Jailhouse Rock. They weren't just mindlessly formula-scripted like most of his flicks...they feature characters with depth, and Elvis turns in some pretty decent acting to boot! Not only that, they're a bit DARK, especially King Creole...a more adventurous type of vibe than your usual Elvis movie. Jailhouse Rock provides plenty of great music, and was the first Elvis movie IMO that made a statement...that movies with Elvis were legit! :-)

The script is good and the songs are mostly good but Elvis has not yet learned to act. He is much better in his next movie: King Creole. Not surprisingly this movie is dated in style. How many 21st. Century people will understand what the record business was like and how popular music was being revolutionized in the 1950s? They won’t learn it from this movie which ignores all the back story.
  • Elvis at his best!

Move over James Dean! Elvis's acting skills in this movie are amazing, his bad boy sexy image is portrayed to excellence! One of my favorite movies of his. This is a movie you can never get tired of watching so I highly reccommend the purchase. Itunes can we have Loving You? Another great movie!

Elvis was a good actor!! He should get the respect and recognition he deserves. Jailhouse Rock was a solid performance. Elvis later turned horrible scripts into something, he could act and you know he didn't have that one look that so many of today actors do, like Keanu Reeves same look for every scene and emotion. Good movie great acting by all!

How can you not live this movie? I was alittle disappointed at first, when I found out it was in black and white. But as the movie progressed, it actually added to the experience.
