Description

Oscar and Golden Globe-winner Robert Duvall ("Falling Down," "A Civil Action") and Michael O'Keefe ("Ghosts of Mississippi," "Ironweed") received Academy Award nominations as father and son in this magnificent drama based on the novel by Pat Conroy ("The Prince of Tides," "The Lords of Discipline"). Duvall is "Bull" Meechum, a gung-ho Marine pilot also known as the Great Santini. "A warrior without a war," he battles on the domestic front with his loving but bullied family, particularly his adolescent son.

See why Duval is a man walking in his calling as an astonishing actor. Revealing story with a "good-fit" cast, especially Blythe Danner & Michael O'Keefe. Terrific insight into the military man & their military- families. The tension of the Father/Son relationship is illustrated in all it's rawness.

I am currently listening to the book by Pat Conroy and remembered there was a movie from this book (1979). I thought it would be really old fashion but was surprised at how good the acting was, especially the young man that played Ben. I guess you should never write a movie off just because it is not recent. A really great movie!

Duvall is the master. Loved Michael O'Keefe. Now I want to read the book.

Robert Duvall at his best! Better performance than Apocalypse Now. It's also a great story about family and friendship.
