  • Long and boring

Chisum is long, boring, and the acting is so flat. This comes off like a long tv show episode from the 70's.
  • Badly directed

This could have been a great movie but the director wasn't up to the task. The corny title sequence with its combination of singing and manly poetry, along with overly dramatic imagery provides a clue to the rest of the film. Cliche TV-style zooms and other nonsense serve as continual reminders that you are watching a movie, as does the combination of quality supporting actors and cartoon characters. Throw in a bunch of repetitious shots of cowpokes being blown out of windows and off balconies, along with blown-out torches that bounce off walls and still manage set buildings on fire. and you're got it. The Lincoln County War was a heck of a true story. I look forward to a retelling of this story directed by someone who can do a good job of it.

a must see, John Wayne at his best and seconded by Forrest Tucker who also signs a great acting performance in this movie in this "mano a mano" which forms the core of the story. again one of these classics that any western's "connaisseur" will have seen a couple of times. originally released in 1970, the same year as "Rio Lobo", a great year for western movies with two chef d'oeuvres.

I know that John Wayne has made a lot of westerns in his day, and I will be the first to admit that this isn't his best work but its pretty close. Taken a page from the old westerns, this movie shows all the same qualities that made John Wayne who he is today. Between fight scenes, cattle drives, horse thieves, and budding romances, it all is just fun to watch. You even get to see where justice finally wins out in the end. If your a Duke fan, then this movie is a great watch and an even better rent!
  • I want the music from the movie to be available in Itunes.

..but solid! A good script marred by 1970s filmmaking styles. Not a classic but an enjoyable old style western. And great to see some of the Duke's long time pals in this too.
