I loved this movie. It was way better than the old 1960 series, which were good, until season 1 episode 8 I think. People need to let the fans handle the reviews tho. I mean COME ON! People actually want to put JONATHAN HARRIS in this movie? Give me a break! Harris ruined dr Smith completely. Whoever was acting in this movie was excellent. The special fox are outstanding. I only had 2 complaints: 1. Penny was annoying. 2. The stupid space ape thing shouldโ€™ve been left out. It was unnesscasary Overall, this movie was great and to top it off, IT WASNT MADE BY F%#@ing disney

Stupid ^10. I honestly cannot think of even one positive attribute for this flick. Except perhaps that it provides effective symptomatic relief from insomnia.
  • Enjoyable movie, very underrated

I'm a diehard fan of the original series, but that has nothing to do with my impression of this film. I appreciate that the filmmakers try to take a different approach to an updating of the classic TV series, but this film is so dark and depressing , that all the obviously expensive CGI effects in the world can't make for an entertaining movie. None of the family members seem to relate to each other. The encounter with the alien "spiders" is more akin to a Ridley Scott sci-fi/horror movie. Dr. Smith is a homicidal maniac who should've been killed early on. I tried to watch this movie several more times after seeing it in the theater, but it's always such a downer that I can't recommend it to anyone.
  • Sorry no with out Jonathon Harris

Some tv shows you just cant remake. This is one of them. Who ever wrote and directed this weren't fans of the show, you can tell.

Had there been no 1960's tv show called LOST IN SPACE (which I watched addictively in rerun format as a child), I might have really enjoyed this. But updating the story and including the now-grown (and in two cases now-much older) cast members of the original tv show did not help. The storyline is intriguing and could have been really great. The always-wonderful Gary Oldman is my fave (as was the late Jonathan Harris from the original show, both of whom portray the somewhat evil-yet-jovial Dr. Smith)...and that's it. Let's just hope they don't do a remake of LAND OF THE GIANTS, the other scifi show that followed LIS on tv in those innocent days of televsion. Not a terrible movie, but could have been WAY better.
