Description

Based on the graphic novel by James Jones, The Thin Red Line tells the story of a group of men, an Army Rifle company called C-for-Charlie, who change, suffer, and ultimately make essential discoveries about themselves during the fierce World War II battle of Guadalcanal. It follows their journey, from the surprise of an unopposed landing, through the bloody and exhausting battles that follow, to the ultimate departure of those who survived. A powerful frontline cast - including Sean Penn, Nick Nolte, Woody Harrelson and George Clooney - explodes into action in this hauntingly realistic view of military and moral chaos in the Pacific during World War II.

... in this movie it's the ARMY. Why? I have seen this movie once before and while it is very beautiful with some great action scenes just not enough of them, especially in an almost 3 hour movie. Yes the Army was in the Pacific but there were 10 times as many Marines there. Slap in the face to the USMC.
  • Inexplicably not in 4K HDR

This is an absolutely gorgeous movie that can easily be upscaled to 4K HDR, yet the iTunes store still does not offer this movie in the appropriate resolution. I would recommend waiting to purchase this movie until it is offered properly in 4K HDR.

Having watched most movies about WW2, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I lost interest half way through the movie which doesn’t usually happen to me with a war movie. Lots of beautiful cinematography, but a good war movie spends less time on blowing trees and injured birds, and focuses more on the heroic deeds, and misery of the soldiers who so gallantly fought. The voiceovers also were strange. Why this movie is consistently rated as one of the best war movies is bizarre. Matter of fact, the entire movie was bizarre. Wish I could get my $3.99 back.

This is more of art than entertainment. Feel good film. Will touch your heart. No sarcasm or punch lines not a commercial movie. Very beautiful movie.

I recorded this movie it was just absolutely sad but great at the same time this is different from most war movies because this has a lot of heart and soul that’s what makes this movie special and it’s so emotional that every time I watch the trailer when it gets to the part where it plays that song I just click out of the video it’s so special

There is a lot of good stuff in this movie but the director was very self-indulgent. By the time you approach the two-hour mark you wonder where it is headed and by the end the message is pretty much beaten to death. By essentially banning the producers, Terrence Malick removed the breaks to this rambling cart and it just rolls on. If he hadn't been so possessive of all the art he created, and if he had cut it down by at least 45 minutes, it would have been a far better film. As is, it becomes very tedious. (Besides, what does this film really have to do with Guadalcanal?) n any case, this seems like the opposite of Apocalypse Now but with similar problems - wandering around looking for a conclusion while the director keeps coming up with stuff on the fly and stopping whenever he sees a bug, bird, or other critter.. Frankly, the story could have been told in a 30-minute short.
