Description

Angelina Jolie stars as Mariane Pearl, wife of slain journalist Daniel Pearl, in director Michael Winterbottom's adaptation of Mariane's memoir recounting the abduction and murder of her husband (played in the film by Dan Futterman) by Pakistani militants. It was on January 23, 2002, that Mariane Pearl's life took a grim and unanticipated turn that no one could have seen coming. The South Asia Bureau Chief for the Wall Street Journal, Daniel Pearl, was in Pakistan with his pregnant wife, Mariane, when he set out to conduct one last interview for an upcoming article; the pair were due to fly back home to the U.S. shortly thereafter. By all accounts, it was the same type of interview he had conducted a hundred times before, and though the only concern that Daniel had voiced beforehand was that he might be a bit late for dinner, it would soon become obvious that something had gone horribly awry. Later, in an attempt to rise above the seething vengeance and cycle of violence that the post-9/11 world has fallen into and familiarize her newborn son with the father he will never know, Mariane penned A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband Danny Pearl.

  • It takes you into their lives and you feel what they felt.

I thought this was a very good film that just played out the Pearls story, as it occured. Not political, but factual in how it must have felt to have the person you love disappear, and the anguish that follows when you wonder, what happened? In the end you realize that the War On Terror is just in everyway, and there is no way to empathize with the terrorists point of view. They are animals!

Jolie's best performance in a while, I'll give her that. But the film is depressing, and the atmosphere and camerawork just aren't attractive. I'm sure the only reviewer on here besides me will take offense to this, but at least I didn't give it a three. It's a good film, but not great. 7.5-8/10 for me. It's worth watching before spending the money to put it on your iPod. Rent it on DVD first.
  • Sad movie, but difficult to follow

It may have been that the hectic pace of the movie was intentional. At times, the camera work was like Blair Witch, which was distracting to me. The story was sad, certainly, and Angelina Jolie was very good at portraying the determination and Mariane Pearl. It's just that if you don't already know all of the details, you may struggle to follow along who's who.

Angelina Jolie should have had the golden globe and I can't BELIEVE she didnt get the oscar nomiantion (if ellen page got one for juno, this shouldve been obvious). The acting is brilliant and the presentation of the story is perfect. The camera quality and technique gives the film character, defintitely in a good way, in spite of what anyone says. Best film of the year in my opinion, along with Gone Baby Gone.

This is a fantastic story, poorly executed. Jolie gives a great performance that is drowned in a disappointing script and lamely shot film. The pace creeps along and you are often lost in the sequence of events. What a shame that this poignant true story was not done justice.

THis film is one of the best this year! Angelina Jolie's performance as Mariane Pearl is so good it's so true, sad, and heartbreaking! The film does a good job of everyhting it puts out the plot is simple but makes it turn very complex and suspensful When i saw the film i sometimes 4got that Mariane was Angelina! the story is very good and the acting is very deep (hard to belive that this was an actual event) The scene were she finds out that her husband was no longer alive was so sad that i actually felt her pain THIS IS AN EXCELLENT FILM! ANGELINA JOLIE GOT ROBBED AT THE 2007 ACADEMY AWARDS!! SHE SHOULD'VE GOT THE NOMINATION FOR 'BEST ACTRESS'!!!
  • Incredible acting, heartfelt and terrifying, yet not accusatory.

This film did a great job of capturing Marianne and the tone of her book, how she was able to view her own life objectively while feeling such demanding and exhausting emotions. Jolie is outstanding, the film will bring you to your knees.
