Description

An American legend comes to breathtaking life in this explosive epic Western starring Jason Patric, Robert Duvall, Gene Hackman and Wes Studi as Geronimo. Studi (The Last Of The Mohicans) gives a stunning performance as the fearless warrior who was the last Indian leader to surrender to the white man. Betrayed by the Army's legendary Indian fighter, General George Crook (Hackman), Geronimo leads a small band of warriors in escape. Pursued by a principled officer (Patric), a grizzled Army scout (Duvall), and a gung-ho West Point graduate (Matt Damon, Good Will Hunting), Geronimo evades capture through brilliant military strategy and cut-throat courage. His true story is both an action adventure and a spiritual journey through the heart of a warrior.

  • THE GREAT GERONIMO, A FREEDOM FIGHTER

Although this movie is way better than the stereotypical old Western movies of the past, it's still lacking. This movie should be more about GERONIMO and told from "his" (his people's perspective, the APACHE). The Apache nation was one of, if not the best fighters in the American West of the 1800's. GERONIMO's story is told as a very brief overview. This movie was good in that Lt. Gatewood & Matt Damon's character's tell or show another point of view, which breaks from old Hollywood stereotypical Westerns, in telling the incredible history of one of the Apache nation's many great leaders (Cochise, Victorio, & Mangas) and his fight to defend the way of life & freedom against the invading Americans to their lands. 3 & 1/2 stars*

I’ve seen other stories/films of Geronimo, this one is filmed and shot very well, sound, cinematography and acting are all spot on. It is a sad tale of the American frontier and the vile against the american natives of this country, that was committed by the white insurgent of pioneers settling the west!

By nature, I'm not necessarily a fan of of the western genra movie. However, this masterpiece has become one of the staples in my movie collection. It is a very sobering view of the TRUE way in which the Native American Tribes were systematically subjugated through government western expansion. It is also an amazing illustrative study at the tenacity of this great people and their ability to survive off (basically) dirt. Wes Studi as Geronuimo is wholly beleivable as Geronimo, proud and stoic. The vertern actors (Gene Hackman and Robert Duvall) are masterfully played. And, what many movies are not, this is historically accurate. Definitly 2 thumbs up!

as a film is just poor: most acting is overexpressive, script quite predictable, forced harsh dialogs, unrealistic characters, voice over messages too obviuos trying to make a deep film, which misses by far. Gave 2 stats since the scenery is quite something
