The story begins with a murder, in the form of a ritual execution. The victim is a patient of a successful hypnotherapist, Dr. Stevie Fleming, an outwardly confident woman who has decided to take life by the horns. Poised to publish her first book on hypnotherapy, Dr. Fleming has finally worked up the courage to stand up to her exploitive ex-husband who has been leaching off her success. Savoring this milestone, her life takes an unforeseen detour in the direction of her dark past, when she leaves her office and her elevator screeches to a halt. Trapped with a nervous stranger, she soon discovers him to be a righteous hit-man, contracted to deliver his special brand of justice.
