Description

The gospel message of 'Christ crucified' has always been offensive. In our culture it is common for preachers to soften the offense of the cross, and the attributes of God that are displayed in the person of work of Jesus Christ. American Gospel: Christ Crucified explores how the paths of post-modernism and progressive Christianity lead to a different gospel, and a god created in our own image.

All true Christians need this documentary for understanding true-truth.

As a believer I really was disappointed with this documentary. This is EXACTLY why people are turned away from organized religion and/or Christianity. The folks featured in this documentary do exactly what they accuse others of doing. They cherry pick verses to validate their point, disregard others that are in contrast to their perspective, interpret it how they see fit, and then have the arrogance/audacity (like every other organized religion)to believe they are right and everyone else is wrong. You literally have some of these folks supporting John Piper dismissing Rob Bell from christianity by making very large assumptions. As if he or anyone has the authority to dismiss another Christian from the faith. These people talk a lot but they certainly don’t listen. These theologians come across worse than the people they try and villainize. I would say go into this documentary with an open mind and view it just as a “huh that’s interesting,” type thing and forget about it. Remember your relationship with Jesus is YOURS. Do not look to these people for spiritual guidance, clarity, or any kind of legitimate argument one way or the other. These folks are exactly why people hate organized religion.

This film does an excellent job in presenting the truth while making sure the alternate views and individuals are heard and presented, yet the errors and ramifications of those false views clearly exposed.
  • 3 hours long!?!!!

I thought this movie does a great job revealing false converts (people who are just in church acting the part due to culture and friends/family.) Heck, the news just came out that the lead singer of “Hawk Nelson” is a false convert. However, this movie is three hours long. I only made it halfway through (1 hour30 minutes) before I couldn’t continue due to the movie really dragging along to repeatedly hammer the same point over and over. Then the movie rental expired, so I will have to rent it again to finish. However, I think I’m going to buy it instead, so I can have it in my digital library to go over these points with my boys when they are older because this is really a hidden problem. What do I mean by hidden? Well after dating girls and making friends in the Christian school system I found myself perplexed at my “Christian” friends who could care less to be obedient to what God says, and this movie goes to show that friends or girls who I have dated who acted like this were probably false converts (this is a big problem in Christian schools since mommy and daddy pay/force their kids to go).

The amount of unbelief in this doc is absurd, Jesus said let your yes be yes and no be no, do not be swayed by every wind of doctrine, and unless you become like a child you won’t see the kingdom of heaven, all this film does is question gods ways. I mean every other sentence is well what I think no well what I think. Who cares just believe what Jesus said and settle it in your heart enough of all this back and forth garbage

I’m a believer and I think I’m going to have to go take about six Advil now. I just don’t think you should attempt to intellectually explain the mysteries of God and salvation. It all comes down to faith, to trusting in God’s forgiveness for your sins. Do you believe that’s found in Jesus or do you not believe?

This really challenged me and had me take a hard look at my views of the gospel and Christianity. It sent me into a whirlwind of research and I have loved every second of it.

I really loved the first installment of the American Gospel, this version really challenge me in a lot of different ways they talked about so many things that I’ve probably never heard preachers even talk about let along things that people have Have never mentioned in Christianity overall I was definitely a challenge but at the same time I was heart checked on why Jesus went to the cross

A fantastic and theologically sound documentary on what actually took place on the cross, and the hope that offers to all who repent and believe the biblical gospel.
