  • Magnificently horrifying

The Acting truly is quite a remarkable. Helen Mirren and Ian McKellan are absolute masters of their craft and make for quite the duo in this film. However it is, by itself in script, plot, and pacing a burden to watch as you know what is going to happen, just not how exactly. And the twists and turns all make it all the more horrifying as they unravel. I wished this was more of a romantic comedy after watching the first 20 min. But alas you are left with a revenge tale 60 years in the making. All in all, I’m glad I watched it once for the splendid performance of acting, but never again.

Picked this movie based on the cast and they did not disappoint. It was a moving though difficult storyline, held together by wonderful acting. Minimal, mostly dull sets, plus a few disconnects in the storyline, plus too much emphasis on smoking, did not endear me to the film. Overall, it was worth seeing because of the talented actors.

The second time I watched it, I found it hilarious. Besides, it’s very interesting, these things happened for real.
  • Great start, horrible finish

The first hour or so of this movie is magical. Almost everything is perfectly staged, and the scenes simply crackle with portent and possibilities. Then about 75 minutes in, the pacing is destroyed as the story veers off into #METOO revenge fantasyland. From that point on, the story limps to the "conclusion," discarding most of the careful set-up. Horribly disappointing.

There was a lot to digest in this movie. I thought they set the story up well. Not too slow and at a digestible pace. It was predictably unpredictable. You knew something was up...but had no idea THAT was going to be the ending. Helen Mirren’s dialogue at the end when she’s in the chair was superb. Amazing actress. We really enjoyed this movie!

Right from the start you can sense something is awry. Great lead actors, good storyline a bit slow to get into action.
