Description

Directed by John Lee Hancock (SAVING MR. BANKS), THE FOUNDER features the true story of how Ray Kroc (Michael Keaton), a struggling salesman from Illinois, met Mac and Dick McDonald, who were running a burger operation in 1950s Southern California. Kroc was impressed by the brothers' speedy system of making the food and saw franchise potential. Writer Robert Siegel (THE WRESTLER) details how Kroc maneuvered himself into a position to be able to pull the company from the brothers and create a billion-dollar empire. The film also stars Laura Dern as Ray Kroc’s first wife Ethel; John Carroll Lynch as Mac McDonald and Nick Offerman as Dick McDonald.

This is a fantastic film made greater as a semi period piece movie. It’s a complicated movie depending on who’s lens you watch through and the more you watch the more the layers become known. GREAT MOVIE!!

This was a typical M. Keaton movie where you’re torn between deciding was the movie great, or was Keaton just great and the story so-so. In this case, I believe it was both a great performance by Keaton and a very insightful story of how the McDonald’s empire came to be. Who knew there were two brothers named McDonald in CA that perfected the art of fast food in 1954. Bottom line, well worth watching.

Wow...brutal. It was crazy, the whole story was a show of how vicious and inhumane the business world can be. I had no words after the movie accept...brutal. Just plain brutal.

The movie is Ok, however the story behind the franchise represents everything that is wrong in the world, particularly the United States. Covet after covet after covet. I knew that the handshake was a scam. If the handshake was good enough for part of the deal why not the rest. The two brothers should have stood firm with the contract as they did initially with their core beliefs of what they wanted McDonalds to be. You get everything in writing!
