Description

CITIZEN SOLDIER is a dramatic feature film, told from the point of view of a group of Soldiers in the Oklahoma Army National Guard's 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, known since World War II as the "Thunderbirds. ” Set in one of the most dangerous parts of Afghanistan at the height of the surge, it is a heart-pounding, heartfelt grunts' eye-view of the war. A modern day Band of Brothers, Citizen Soldier tells the true story of a group of Soldiers and their life-changing tour of duty in Afghanistan, offering an excruciatingly personal look into modern warfare, brotherhood, and patriotism. Using real footage from multiple cameras, including helmet cams, these Citizen Soldiers give the audience an intimate view into the chaos and horrors of combat and, in the process, display their bravery and valor under the most hellish of conditions.

This movie isn't about war. This movie IS about the lives of US soldiers DURING war. Thus, regardless of ones opinions on war, I encourage all to watch this, as every American needs to understand the life and challenges of every American soldier. They've sacrificed so much.

I will get panned for this review, but this documentary painfully shows what happens when a group of inadequately trained soldiers are thrown into a killing field. I watched men shouting contact but with no direction, men firing into banks and berms. Pople in a combat zone, unfit an gasping for breath slimbing inclines, which rendered them usless, in any ambush situation. The team that was portrayed was a liability to the peopke in it an anyone who was relying on them. If that what that the doco was about then it suceeded, but I feel that it was not about inadequacy, but some sort of amateur gung ho action movie. At least the helo guys knew what they were doing.

I usually watch scary movies. This was different for me. It had some tear jerking parts. Some action. It shows how it is on the front lines when at war. It ain't fun and games by any means. It is very serious.

Citizen Soldier is an intense military documentary shot from the point of view of a group of soldiers in the Oklahoma National Guard and their experience fighting abroad in Afghanistan. It includes footage shot from multiple go-pro cameras which gives the audience an extremely intimate view into the chaos of combat as well as the bravery and strength the men and women of the National Guard display in the most difficult situations. The sacrifices the soldiers make in order to keep their fellow soldier safe is extremely touching and adds to the brotherhood between the men and women. If you haven’t already had the chance, I highly recommend watching this film.

I think this documentary was a great tribute towards our service men and women. It follows the Oklahoma Army National Guard's 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team on their deployment to Afghanistan. This film is unlike any other war film I have seen because it’s filmed from the point of view of the soldiers on the front line, which gave me an insight that I wouldn’t have been able to get in other war films. Seeing what these men and women do everyday to keep our country safe is amazing, and I can’t thank them enough for what they are willing to sacrifice. If you haven’t seen this touching documentary, you should definitely watch it.

This was such an incredible film, a truly immersive experience. With raw, helmet-cam footage from the front-lines and personal stories from the soldier’s themselves, I felt like I was right there with them. I was inspired by being able to see their bravery and how they interact with each other on the frontlines. It was honestly, such a moving experience, I definitely recommend it.

This movie is real, in your face, hardcore footage! The American people needed this. The "weekend warriors" are not just warriors on the weekend! My brother in law dies in this film. Although it hurts my heart even 5 years after, it also fills me with pride knowing these men and women are courageous enough to make this sacrifice. God bless our military! For they are the reason we remain free.

When I hear “military documentary”, I automatically think of pro-war or patriotic films, but Citizen Soldier goes beyond the typical stereotypes of films in its genre. Filmed from the first-hand perspectives of National Guardsmen, the film tells the story of the courage and comradery of a group of ordinary men and women who are deployed to the front lines of one of Afghanistan’s most dangerous areas. This film is not just a genuine look at the realities of war, but also a look at the impact it has on those thrusted into it. From the intense combat scenes to the moving personal interviews, you can see the unbreakable bonds these soldiers form with each other. Each man and woman out there fights not for themselves, but for their brothers—those at war alongside them and at home. Their selflessness is inspiring and I think it’s a movie well-worth my recommendation.

Citizen Soldier is unlike any other war film I’ve seen. Watching this candid documentary gave me a deeper understanding of what it takes to be a soldier serving our country: bravery, devotion, and above all brotherhood. Soldiers of the Oklahoma Army National Guard train 39 days out of the year so they can leave their jobs and fight for our country when needed. This film truly portrays the lives of these normal citizens and the contrast they faced being deployed to one the most dangerous parts of Afghanistan. No matter how treacherous or difficult missions progressed, their diligence and commitment to each other never ceased. Filmed through a helmet cam, it allowed me to feel right in the battle as apart of their troop. This film has had me thinking for days. I’m so glad this amazing documentary was made to properly pay tribute to these heroes.
