Description

"To look into the eyes of the Wolf is to see your own soul" once proclaimed American Author and Scientist Aldo Leopold; In this beautiful and important documentary, filmmaker Julia Huffman travels to Minnesota and into wolf country to pursue the deep intrinsic value of perhaps the most unjustly maligned animal on the face of the planet. Medicine of the Wolf focusses on these extraordinary sentient creatures and the remarkable, world-renowned National Geographic photographer Jim Brandenburg, who has photographed and studied wolves for 45 years—longer than anyone in history. As our guide, Brandenburg enables us to see the world of the wolf as we have never seen it before. Documented with stunning cinematography of the Northern Minnesota landscape "wolf country”, Medicine of the Wolf tugs at the emotions while presenting the complexities and highly charged politics now surrounding an animal being pushed towards extinction.

  • The Yellowstone wolf

I really enjoyed this movie; the photos, the history, and the opinions of those you have studied wolves. I really think the biggest miss is the lack of information on the impact of wolves on elk and deer populations. It talks about Yellowstone's ecosystem improving when the wolf was reintroduced but doesn't explain the numbers behind that improvement and over what period of time.

I've always loved wolves and have wanted them protected. I had misconceived beliefs in regards to the wolf. I actually thought if I met one in nature while hiking that I should be scared of it because it would stalk and attack me. By watching this documentary I learned that is not the truth and I also learned how important the wolf is for the sustainability of our eco system. The wolf is an animal to be honored, not feared. This documentary touched my heart and opened my eyes. I pray that more people are awakened to the truth about the importance of wolves and those that have the power to protect them do. God Bless the wolves!

Julia Huffman's documentary beautifully tells the history and uncovers many of the mysteries of wolves. It's current and compelling. The film comes at a time when the existence of wolves is in danger. Decisions by politicians to remove wolves from the endangered species list led to other decisions, state-by-state, to add wolves to the lists of animals that can be legally hunted and killed. Medicine Of The Wolf brings the audience literally face to face with wolves. We wolves interact with each other and with humans. The film introduces us to Jim Brandenburg and his images of wolves taken over a career of nature photography. Watching Medicine Of The Wolf I gained a deeper appreciation and understanding about this often misunderstood animal species and the choices humans can and will make about its future.
  • Be prepared to be enchanted

Be prepared to be enchanted by the beauty and mystery of these majestic creatures. Be prepared to be enlightened on the scientific importance of wolves to the environment and the balance they maintain in nature. This story beautifully told by Julia Huffman, featuring renowned wolf and nature experts including Jim Brandenburg and Jane Goodall, will inspire you by wolves’ dedication to family, their strength, and their wisdom. Also be prepared to be uncomfortable, embarrassed, and disappointed in how our childhood fairytales and our archaic attitudes and cruelty towards wolves are at odds with the very survival of these creatures and thus the health of our natural world. The truth is that we are much smarter than this and need to sort out the complex issues of coexisting with wolves through innovation, tolerance, and intelligence. This important film sets the stage for exhibiting leadership the world needs in preserving the natural wonders of this earth for the ultimate long-term survival of us all.
  • LIFE CHANGING

Seeing, then living this this story and plight was riveting. A changing time for us and them. Wolves factor into our human experience to a far greater degree than is commonly known. Tens of thousands of years of partnership… then we abandon them at a crucial time. We need them now as much as ever. The North American Natives knew their essence, Chief Big Wolf, the Ojibway elder speaks so eloquently in the movie about this! They revered the wolf and were not threatened by them. It looks unwise and is a statement of weakness to disgrace our fellow 4-leggeds with guns and frivolous killing. Medicine of the Wolf is a powerful voice of the wolf. Thank you Julia Huffman!

Filmmaker Julia Huffman gives light to the plight of the wolf. The imagery is beautiful. We saw the incredible work and heard the story of National Geographic photographer, Jim Brandenburg, who has photographed wolves for over 45 years and is one of their most devout champions. His story was very moving to me; this made me hopeful to see his and the many other humans on their side trying to save them. I cannot fathom while they were taken off the endangered list when there were just a few thousand in the country?! I am inspired once again to do what I can to help and right now I encourage you to watch this important film. Thank you, Julia!

This is one of the most compelling and relevant documentaries of our time. So eye-opening, it ignites a true passion to protect a being so terribly misunderstood and persecuted for centuries. Medicine of the Wolf is a must-see.
